Women's Specialities

Asking for help for mood problems is often difficult for women.  However, depression and anxiety are even more common in women than men.  Changes in women’s hormones are associated with specific mood difficulties, including premenstrual depression, depression in pregnancy, postpartum depression, and depression around menopause.

The Women’s Emotional Health Center provides a holistic approach to the diagnosis, medication management, and psychotherapy of emotional conditions specific to women.  We offer care to the woman with mood difficulties related to:

  • pregnancy
  • postpartum depression
  • pregnancy loss and infertility
  • the menstrual cycle
  • menopause
  • chronic pelvic pain
  • history of abuse or other traumas
  • the adoption process
  • eating disorders
  • intimacy difficulties

Dr. Stephanie Berg is a board certified psychiatrist who specializes in diagnosis and medication management of mood disorders in women.

Kelly Helms, LISW-CP specializes in individual and family therapy for women, infants, and children.  She is trained in EMDR therapy, a therapy working towards resolution of mood issues in women with history of trauma.

To schedule an appointment, please call Midlands Psychiatry at (803) 779-3548 and specify that you are calling for an appointment for therapy with Kelly Helms, medication evaluation with Dr. Berg, or for appointments with both Dr. Berg and Kelly Helms.
